I am addicted to genealogy. My genealogy project started in December 2001 when I started collecting family history information on my family and my wife’s family.

This blog is used to provide brief posts on my research.

  1. Hi,
My grandma was an Agnes Corken, daughter of Thomas Corken/Corkin and Mary Jane Gordon. Grandma was born in Lambeg, County Antrim/Down, Northern Ireland. I’ve traced some of the earlier family and found that they originated from around Derriaghy, near Lisburn, County Antrim.
Some of the earliest family that I’ve uncovered had firstnames Moses, Joshua, and even a Jacob. I suspect that a Rev. John Corkin of Glenavy C of I, near Lisburn may have been instrumental in the naming. However I’ve uncovered a large number of Corkens/Corkins with lots leaving Ireland for foreign fields.
I would be interested in any information you may be willing to share on a Joshua Corkin and his wife Eliza Allett (probably Elliot) who married 31st August 1855 in the house of Joshua Corkin, Whanganui, one of whose children was your Moses Charles Corkin.
    many thanks

    1. Hi, my great grandfather was Joshua and Eliza’s child Joshua. He married Mary Jane Trevella my mother’s mother’s mother. Joshua died aged 33. Glad to know where the family came from as I am now in Ireland researching my husband’s convict ancestors. Looks like it will need to be Northern Ireland next time.
