George Henry Trueman Photographs

I recently obtained an old photograph album and loose photos that belonged to Harold Trueman. After Harold died, the photographs were retained by the Palmerston North City Council from when they cleaned out the house that Harold rented.  Catheryn Te Paiho contacted me about the photos and sent the collection. Some of the photographs are labelled on the back, but many are not.

I have added a page to my genealogy web site that has some of the photos.  This post has several additional photos.  Please comment if you can help identify or confirm identity.

George Henry Trueman (1876-1961) and his wife Mabel Alice Halpin (1894-1935) had a daughter (Thelma Rita 1927-1987) and two sons (Harold 1930-2011 and Alick 1932-2006). The family lived in Palmerston North. Most of the photos in the collection are of members of the family.

2018 NOTE: Labels changed on some photos where identities were confirmed or known to be wrong, based on information from Lorraine Skurr.  The surname of Raymond (third photo is not known).

    Hi Chris – I found your blog while searching for info on how to export my family tree information from Brothers Keeper software, to another device. I hope you don’t mind me contacting you in this way, but I am struggling and it seems from one of your previous posts that you may have succeeded in importing your brothers keeper files into a new app? is this right?
    I have saved my data files to a pen drive – but they aren’t GED files I don’t think……and now I am stuck
    if you are able to help me I would be really grateful – don’t want to lose all this information if at all possible, and having it on my iPad would be amazing

      Hi Sarah

      Yes I use Brother’s Keeper for my genealogy on my PC and have a GEDCOM version of the information on my ipad.

      The best way to export information from Brother’s Keeper to other genealogy programs is to make a GED file, and import the GED file. Most of the information can be imported and be recognised by other software and web sites. There are one or two things that will not be imported because they are not used by other software (or maybe they are not exported?), but you may not notice or you may not have used those “Event/Fact” tags in Brother’s Keeper. All the critical information is transferred in my experience, and often there are messages which tell you what could not be imported.

      If you have your files from Brother’s Keeper I suggest you download Brother’s Keeper onto a PC, copy the files to your hard drive and open the database (“Open database” on the file menu). If you have a backup on the pen drive just use the “Restore” command on the File menu. Once you have your database working again in Brother’s Keeper, use the “Gedcom” and “Export” command on the File menu to make a Gedcom file for transfer to your iPad app.

      I have loaded a GEDCOM into a couple of websites that have apps for use on the ipad or iphone. I also have loaded GEDCOM files into PC software like Family Tree Maker, Genviewer and Personal Ancestral File (now discontinued). Timothy McQuaid has a web page listing of iPad apps to use for genealogy – he notes that GEDVIEW is different from other apps because no specific computer application is required, nor is a subscription to any website. Standard GEDCOM files can be imported into the app.

    Hi I am Harold Trueman’s daughter I would love to have those photos, I have been searching to find out if my father had any photos! It would mean a lot to me to have them!!

    This family of Truemans is related to my uncle Ronald Trueman who was married to my mother’s sister. My cousins look extremely like some of the photos of their uncles and aunt. Can I please print off these photos and the info you have for my cousin Lynette Tier, née Trueman, who is interested in doing their family tree. Kind regards, Lillian Hall.
